Accommodation
The accommodation here at Tangle Tower in the Highlands of Scotland has been renovated over two years bringing it up to date with a luxurious contemporary feel, incorporating some of the buildings original features therefore not loosing any of its historical charm.
Tangle Tower has stood on the banks of the Moray Firth for over 150 years, giving it panoramic views across the water towards the Kessock bridge and beyond.
Originally called the Watchtower, its purpose served as a coastguards quarters. The jetty ran from the kitchen with the boat being stored on the ground floor (now the living room / kitchen). Many a local can tell a tale of the men who lived and worked in the tower and the rescues and some fatal incidents they attended over the years.
The whole building has been transformed from a dark, rundown, unloved property to a bright, homely, welcoming place to stay, and situated within walking distance of the city centre you can park-up and spend your time exploring on foot.
The main living space within the tower is situated on the ground floor, where you will discover a spacious, yet cosy open plan living room and kitchen-diner.
In keeping with its enviable seafront position, Tangle Tower’s new look is inspired by its maritime heritage, tones, textures and patterns reminiscent of sunny sea-side trips, light fittings and collectibles that would fit in nicely at any fisher-mans cottage. This space was originally used to store / work on the lifeboat during Tangle Towers past life as a coastguards property. The red sandstone feature wall is original to the building, you can even see some of the holes where rods were fed to support the boat whilst work was undertaken. In this ample living area there are plenty of places to sit and relax either to read, plan your day out or watch a little tv (a BT Tv package and WIFI available).
The front room leads nicely onto the kitchen diner area. you will find it fully stocked with everything you should need for your visit, a beautiful bespoke fitted kitchen with a granite work-top, incorporating many mod-cons including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge, cooker and coffee machine.
The large ceiling to floor bi-fold doors look out from the kitchen to a large patio garden area which is very secluded and ideal for barbecues. The garden provides unspoiled views out onto the sea, Tangle Tower is literally on the beach front. Just imagine yourself relaxing on the patio watching the wildlife as it goes by its daily business…..And there is plenty of wildlife given the Merkinch local nature reserve is just up the road.
The garden is fully enclosed with two large lawns, a reclaimed boat which has been transformed into a quirky seat and red brick pathways (reclaimed from the interior floor of the kitchen and living room). There is also access to a large triple garage, where you will find a barbecue for use when the weather is amenable.
During WW2 this room was used as a look-out point by the United States Airforce? And you can certainly see why.
